fam + TX = fun

I just got back from visiting my family in Texas. It was a great trip! My grandma came to visit too. She didn’t know I was coming, so we totally surprised her! It was great! I got to have a girls day w/ my two little sisters- shopping, eating, driving and rocking out to music… fabulous! They took me to a restaurant I had never been before- Newks– soooooo good! I got to sing w/ my fam at church on Sunday. My parents recently bought a house, so I got to be in their new home, and help them w/ some decorating. I took senior pics for my youngest sister (you’ll be seeing some of those on the blog in the near future). So, I had a great trip! Family is such a wonderful blessing and gift from God! I missed my husband though, so I was also happy to get back to him and to our home.

Here’s a fun sisters self portrait ๐Ÿ™‚

loving spring

I’m loving this season! There are so many great things about spring. The colors of flowers and leaves on the trees, and the warmth of the weather are just the beginning of the joys of spring. I love being able to crack my windows and hear birds chirping in the morning. I love learning little things about landscaping and dreaming with my husband about what we can do with our yard (we plan to buy flowers, herbs, and veggies to plant this weekend). I have a beautiful cherry blossom tree that had the most amazing pink flowers- I’m sad the blooms are gone now, but my dogwood is starting to bloom, so it helps me cope :0).

I also love that with spring comes lots of photography- weddings, families, couples, seniors, kids, … you name it!

I love spring portrait sessions! Here’s a little taste of the morning spring light and an awesome couple I was able to shoot this morning (more to come soon). ๐Ÿ™‚

I am so blessed to shoot weddings with these two amazing gals, Casey and Kristin, as part of Poiema Photography. Since Casey is in TX now, and Kristin lives downtown, every wedding is like a reunion for us! We have so much fun together. God has really blessed us as a team!!

We get a little goofy after a wedding :0)The greatest thing about spring is that we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I am so very thankful that Jesus came to earth, lived a sinless life, died on the cross bearing the penalty for the sins of the whole world, then three days later arose from the dead. I serve a living God! And because He defeated sin and death (by His own death), I can now live in the newness of the life of the risen Christ. And I live in the hope that one day I will be raised to share in eternal glory with my Savior.

I got a new toy this weekend! An old Polaroid!!! Isn’t it so cute! I’ve got some film on the way, and I can’t wait to use it. I’ve even got ideas for incorporating this baby into some of my sessions. We’re so used to the instant gratification of the lcd screen, but how much fun would it be to take home a polaroid pic (or few) from your session!

I’m loving all things vintage these days! I know it may just be a fad, but I can’t help loving it!! I already had this old camera that was my mom’s when she was a newlywed. It’s nothing fancy, but it is special. It’s too bad they don’t make film for it anymore because I love the pictures that she has from it! It’s funny to me that a lot of the editing trends these days are trying to re-produce the look that old film cameras just gave naturally. (not saying I would trade my digital though!)

The best of both worlds is around the corner. They’re re-making the Polaroid! Check it out.

the tortoise and the hare

Have you ever felt like you’re the tortoise and the hare in the same story? Is it possible for life to be both busy and slow all at the same time? That’s how mine has felt lately. I feel like I’m running so fast these days, but yet I’m going so slow! It’s kinda crazy. Because some things are a little slower right now, I’m trying to get so many other things accomplished… so I’m running, but I’m not sure if I’m getting very far. I’m praying for the Lord’s help; that I will organize my life in such a way that I honor Him in everything I do (and everything I don’t do). I’m praying for wisdom to know how to prioritize the things that are best and most important, and not get discouraged with the things that are left undone. I think there is a good lesson in this story- it’s the tortoise who wins the race because he planned his course and consistently “ran” toward the finish line, while the hare proud-fully goofed off thinking he could easily catch up and win. I think it better to be the tortoise!

“Slowly does it every time!” he said.

I am so thankful to God today for my husband! He is such a blessing to me! He loves me, leads me, protects me, provides for me… and he loves God more than he loves me (for which I am so thankful). He is my closest friend and most favorite person! I am so thankful that I have him, and I can’t imagine my life without him!

And we love because God first loved us!!

*thanks to Drea Wood for the picsย  ๐Ÿ™‚

so much… so little

So much has happened these last few weeks, but there’s just been so little time to blog… mainly because I’ve been traveling so much. Mid December I got to go to Texas and spend some time with my BFF, Casey. While there, I helped her shoot her brother’s wedding, got to be a part of Zoe’s first birthday party, and spend a day with my family who drove over to spend time with me. I’ve missed Casey so much since she moved to TX, so it was so awesome to just feel like I was a part of her life there. I was able to meet sweet baby Jack (and hold him and feed him ๐Ÿ™‚ ), and get to love on sweet Zoe… she has definitely stolen my heart, that girl!! She gives kisses, can tell you what a doggy says, says “hi” (especially to baby Jack), … oh, and the most fun is playing with her at night in the living room- chasing her, hide and seek, etc. It was great to get to have late night girl talks w/ Casey, sharing our hearts w/ one another. And I loved being w/ her and Dan together… it adds a whole new dimension to friendship when you’re able to see how your friend and spouse relate to each other, love each other, tease each other, etc. So, Case, thanks for an amazing time in TX! I loved every minute of being w/ you and your family!!

shopping w/ my fab sisters at Forever 21-

After I got home from TX, I had two days to unpack, repack, get some work done, then hit the road for Atlanta, where Wes and I spent Christmas and New Years. We spent Christmas with his family. Wes’ mom isย  a great host and great cook. Weย  got to spend time with Wes’ brothers and their families. It’s always a joy to see their kids; we wish we got to see them more often because they grow so fast. We also got to see aunts and uncles and other cousins. We even got to meet up with a couple of Wes’ best buds.

Our niece and nephews (we have another adorable niece that I failed to get pics of ๐Ÿ˜ฆ )

The coolest Christmas gift we got was an outdoor fireplace… thanks to the parents!! :0) We put it together Saturday, and froze our tails off doing it… but so worth it… check it out-

After Christmas Wes and I spend a couple days just the two of us in Atlanta celebrating our 5th anniversary!! We were married on New Years Eve, and love getting to celebrate something that’s extra special on a holiday. I can’t begin to write how wonderful my husband is or how blessed I am to have him. He is truly a gift from God and brings so much joy to my life! I can’t imagine life without his love and his leadership.

Once we got home, I was a little sad to take down our Christmas tree and decorations, but I’m excited about the new year. I’m looking forward to what this year will bring and praying that we will love and know God more this year and that we will see Him do great things! Happy New Year!

my birthday

I am officially 30 years old! I’ve found myself quoting the line from the movie, Thirteen going on Thirty- “thirty, flirty, and thriving”!! Minus the flirty part of course- only with my husband! :)… but i like the fun reminder that 30 is young and thriving.

I had a wonderful time with my husband for my birthday. We actually celebrated last Friday. We went downtown and walked around Fayetteville St (such a fun street w/ shops, cafes, restaurants). We ate at Sitti, a Lebanese restaurant down there… omg, soooo good!!! We had coffee afterward, and just enjoyed being together!

Wesley got me this bracelet. I love it!! I found it on a friend’s blog recently (she’s such a fashionista! love it!), and immediately sent the link to Wesley, hoping he’d get it for me for my birthday. I love the vintage and organic look it has.

Yesterday, my actual birthday, was mostly a normal day filled w/ work and errands. I got so many phone calls, emails, and facebook messages wishing me happy birthday. I was overwhelmed at all of the relationships God has blessed me with! When I got home last night, Wesley was waiting for me, and had a song ready to play and sing that he had written for me. I want to figure out how to post it on here (he recorded it too) because it is sooooooo sweet and beautiful! I thought about posting the words, but it’s just so beautiful when heard with the melody that I don’t want to separate the music and lyrics. I am so blessed by him and his love for me!!

So, another year, another wonderful birthday, and soooooo many blessings! I am so grateful to my God and King, Jesus Christ for creating me and saving me. Yesterday, I was in Colossians 1, contemplating both creation and new creation… both are by Him and for Him- Jesus Christ, the hope of glory!!
